The Mapping Sciences Institute, Australia is a professional association - non-government organisation - with a National Council and seven Divisions based on the Australian States and Territories. The Council normally convenes twice a year, and a National Executive is responsible for the running of the Institute during the intervening periods. 

All positions within the Institute are voluntary with no permanent staff employed either nationally or at Divisional level. 

In accordance with the Institute's Corporate Plan a series of Program Managers have been appointed to address such matters as Education, Research &Technology, Geospatial Information Infrastructure, etc and  Management.
